8 YEARS ON as an international Soul Surfers Club and its all down to you, our fabulous Members, Friends and Guests and we can't thank you enough.
For Me Personally, Soul Surfing takes on a whole seperate meaning in these twilight years, for I can only surf in my memories these days due to long term illness, but even at my lowest ebb, crippled with RA and in a wheelchair it was the surf, the sea and wonderful friends that pulled me through, and I'm now (thanks to amazing drugs) able to more or less function normally again and spend my life day in day out photographing surfers for my members site and probably one of the largest surf photography archives in the south west if not the UK at www. splashography.com it feeds my soul and through its success we are able to this year run the surf4thesoul website totally sponsored by them and our amazing members, which is a good thing as we slip into yet another political recession.
So for this years theme I've chosen the lyrics of Jack Johnson's 'inaudible melodies' as they seem very fitting, not only in a fast moving world but as the light is so crap in the UK in winter its difficult to shoot good clear frames when the surf is fast :)
we started back in 2002
we could have never envisaged how rapidly
the club and website would grow, let alone
that it would become international and to
such a large extent.
We set out to promote a Surfing community
that would encourage each other inspire each
other and help each other regardless of the
craft they surfed or any other factor, a community
that would share the fun not only with other
club members but with all we met along the
way, promoting old school surfing and sharing
waves. And in so many ways we've done just
that and also encouraged the fun back into
surfing, wherever we go, so why not make a
stand in 2009 by joining us and helping to
spread the Soul.
